Myrtle Street Avant Garden – Volunteer Info

Greetings garden superheroes!

Thank you so much for signing up for Day in the Dirt this Saturday, April 29. This is a huge day for the gardens to get ready for the growing season and share their stories with passionate community members – that’s you!

The event is rain or shine – gardeners are a hardy bunch, after all. We may get wet, we will certainly get dirty, and we are sure to have lots of fun!

YOUR SITE: Myrtle Street Avant Garden

Site Sponsor: Redstone

Address: 13 Myrtle Street, Burlington, VT.

Please carpool, bike, or walk, if possible. Street parking is limited at the garden site and Intervale Center.

This site began as a result of a grassroots volunteer neighborhood effort that began in the Fall of 2007.  Neighbors joined forces after learning of an impending development plan on the site. With support from community partners, the neighbors’ efforts were rewarded when the City of Burlington purchased the garden as a beautiful, rejuvenating place where people can grow and gather. Day in the Dirt volunteers form a bucket brigade to will fill the brand new raised beds and help clean up the site to get it ready for the growing season.

Schedule – Saturday, April 29:

  •         9:00AM – Arrive at your garden site
  •         9:30AM – Work starts
  •        12:00PM – Lunch & Celebration at Intervale Center (180 Intervale Road, Burlington, VT)
Family and friends are welcome to join you at the lunch celebration with a $5 donation.

What to wear: Please wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable and weather appropriate clothing – layers, rain jacket if it looks wet, hat and sunscreen if it looks sunny.

What to bring: Gloves, water, sunscreen, a hoe or rake if you can, a big smile, and a can-do attitude. (Please note that many sites will not have water available – bring your own water bottle.)

Your site also needs the following items. Please bring what you can:

  • shovels, rakes, 5-gallon buckets

As a reminder, volunteers are encouraged to each raise a minimum of $25 toward our fundraising goal. These funds support VCGN’s work to grow more gardens all over the state. The top fundraiser will get a prize! You can use this link to our online fundraising platform to share with family, friends co-workers, and members of the community:
